Four-Wheeled Furies Going National – AGAIN!!!

Four-Wheeled Furies, our documentary about the Rideau Valley Roller Girls roller derby team will appear on CBC’s Absolutely Canadian from coast-to-coast on Saturday March 30, noon Eastern Time. If you have a television and can tune in to your local CBC station, you will be able to see the documentary.

Digi60 Catch and Release

Friday evening marked the pitch session for the 2012 Digi60 Festival. As an invited filmmaker, working with Mountain Road Productions, I was excited to hear the 12 filmmakers pitch different ideas for the catch: “reunion”, with the added challenge of beginning or ending the film with a rhyming couplet.

The pitches were varied: dark science fiction, comic horror, black comedy, drama. In the end we decided to go with a comedy, and I am looking forward to working with the writer to see where the pitched idea can take us.

There was a lot of creative energy in the room, and the process promises to be a very exciting and fun one!

YOW Director Invited Filmmaker for Digi60 Festival

YOW Productions director Bonnie Robinson is one of 8 Ottawa filmmakers invited to participate in the 2012 Digi60 Filmmaker’s Festival. Participants have 60 days to complete a short film, after receiving a surprise “catch” or key element that must appear in the film.

As an invited filmmaker, Bonnie is partnered with Ottawa production company Mountain Road Productions, who will contribute their skill and expertise in the production of the film.

Bonnie will create regular blog postings during this fun and challenging process.

Four-Wheeled Furies Screening

We had an excellent crowd attend the CBC television broadcast of Four-Wheeled Furies on August 4, 2012.

The hour-long documentary profiles some of the women who are part of the Rideau Valley Roller Girls (RVRG) and the fascinating world of roller derby. The audience at the screening was made up of RVRG members, their friends and familes, and the documentary’s crew.

The documentary received an enthusiastic response, with a teary Lauren Hart (Sister Disaster) addressing the crew to say how pleased she was with how the documentary captured the real spirit of fun and camaraderie that the league tries to foster.

YOW Co-Production Wins Film Festival

Room 218, a co-production with Coffee From Hell Productions, made its debut at the 2012 Painted Lips and Lolly Licks Film Festival in Ottawa, Ontario, where it took first place. Local films at the festival were judged by adult film star Kimberly Kane.

Room 218 explores the fine line between pleasure and pain during a couple’s sexual encounter.

Sweet Tarts Appears on CBC TV

August 1, 2011 – Sweet Tarts Takeaway made its television debut on Saturday August 6, from 7 to 8 pm on CBC Ottawa. YOW Productions created the special one-hour episode for CBC Ottawa Presents, a summer series that features locally-produced programs showcasing people in Ontario, including the Ottawa-Gatineau region. The host presenter for this television special was Lucy van Oldenbarneveld from CBC News Ottawa at 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. The comedy special is produced, directed and written by Bonnie Robinson from Ottawa.
